This workshop focuses on the practical conditions for a smooth transition from traditional LDR brachytherapy to a more sophisticated and efficient treatment with PDR and the possibility of optimization. Starting point is the ‘as is’ situation at clinical sites that until now have been using LDR with manual and / or remote afterloading. Purpose of the workshop is to give participants a comprehensive overview of the method and practice of PDR brachytherapy.

To this end the programme addresses all aspects (clinical, physics, logistics and QA) necessary for deciding whether introducing PDR is of benefit to their clinical practice. The conditions for successful implementation are discussed by referring to the current routine of the individual participants. Participants have ample opportunity for hands-on exercise, e.g. converting their own LDR schemes into PDR equivalents by means of a practical tool.

Furthermore, they will have the option to practice catheter reconstruction, treatment planning and optimization. Regarding QA you have the possibility to perform source calibration. Naturally, there is plenty of time for peer-to-peer discussions with the multidisciplinary team from the AMC Amsterdam and Örebro University Hospital.
