Educational workshop: How to do state-of-the-art brachytherapy - basic principles

It is an honor and pleasure to invite you to the first 2-day Erlangen Multidisciplinary clinical workshop on the basic principles of the art of brachytherapy. This workshop will take place at the recently inaugurated Division of Interventional Radiation Oncology as a part of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University Hospital in Erlangen, Germany. The hospital has been recognized as the 1st Education and Training Centre for interventional radiation therapy of DEGRO and as a Nucletron Centre of Excellence.

During this workshop, you will be introduced to the latest innovations in brachytherapy treatment, with a special focus on brachytherapy techniques in the treatment of breast cancer – both as boost and APBI, and esophageal cancer – both as boost and monotherapy. Set in an open and interactive setting, workshop participants can benefit from a leading edge programme addressing theory and practical solutions and featuring live case demonstrations, bringing learnings to life.

Intended Participants
Physicians, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiotherapy technicians and nurses who apply brachytherapy in their everyday practice, and who are keen to establish or update a department, or wish to enhance their knowledge and expertise in applying the latest 3D brachytherapy techniques.

Workshop Topics
• A visit of the new, state-of-the-art brachytherapy department of the University Hospital and a review of pre-requisites for setting up a brachytherapy service
• Learn brachytherapy techniques and pre-implant considerations in the treatment of esophageal cancer and breast cancer
• Review treatment planning methodologies based on image-guidance
• Review the management of breast cancer and esophageal cancer with brachytherapy
• Live treatment case “How to do interstitial brachytherapy in breast cancer“
• Video case “How to do intracavitary brachytherapy in esophageal cancer“
