The OncoSmart Catheter System is a treatment solution for breast irradiation in WBI APBI settings. It creates the opportunity for treating patients on an outpatient basis, with minimum discomfort for the patient.

Treatment catheters are inserted only during the actual treatment. Between fractions, the treatment catheters are removed and only a set of flexible guiding catheters remains in place with small buttons to lock them in the treatment area. These buttons are pre-numbered for quick, accurate and easy setup at every treatment fraction. The two-part catheter design reduces the risk of catheters kinking during insertion or between fractions. Separate OncoSmart Catheter sets are available for use with CT and MR imaging modalities. Such sets contain radio-lucent buttons for optimal visualization.

• Supporting outpatient treatments
• Minimum patient discomfort between fractions
• Quick and accurate reconnection for follow-up fractions

Dr. Rachel Cooper of the St. James' University Hospital in Leeds, UK, discusses the benefits of brachytherapy for a variety of cancers, comparing the treatment with other options for cancer treatment.

For more information, please visit http://www.aboutbrachytherapy.com/

Brachytherapy is a type of internal radiation treatment where we place radioactive sources inside the cancer. So unlike radiotherapy from the outside, or external beam radiotherapy, the radiotherapy moves from the inside of the tumor to the outside of the tumor. That allows us to give a very high dose of radiotherapy over a very short distance, treating the cancer, but sparing the surrounding normal tissue.
