October 31 2008  |  Uninterrupted Supply of Sources

Nucletron has been able to obtain sufficient quantities of irradiated iridium from the BR2 reactor in Mol, Belgium

Veenendaal, Netherlands (October 31, 2008) — The supply situation of iridium sources has been uncertain for some time now due to the temporary closure of the Petten (The Netherlands) HFR Reactor and the temporary lack of back-up irradiation support through other European reactors.

We are happy to report that Nucletron has been able to obtain sufficient quantities of irradiated iridium from the BR2 reactor in Mol, Belgium to cover our customer supply requirements through week 44.

Beyond week 44, Nucletron will be able to continue to provide an uninterrupted supply of sources, as we have secured the support of the Missouri University Research Reactor (MURR) in Columbia, MO, USA.

After the last closure of the Petten HFR in 2002, Nucletron took steps to secure and set-up a second supplier in the United States with the clear purpose of developing a US based irradiation services provider. This strategy is now clearly paying off.

With the combination of services supplied by Mol, MURR, and in addition to the Chalk River reactor in Kanata, Canada, Nucletron will be able to continue to supply sources as per our customer requirements, without interruption, in spite of the continued closure of the Petten HFR reactor. The latest news is that Petten will be open for business late Q1 2009.

The actions taken, as communicated through this announcement, are a direct result of Nucletron’s commitment to our customers in providing uninterrupted services, so they may continue to provide their patients with the highest level of  radiation therapy service in the fight against cancer.
