Clinicians gain access to the latest innovations now and in the future

Veenendaal, Netherlands (July 22, 2009) — Nucletron, a knowledge-based leader in radiation oncology, announced today that US Oncology, Inc. is the first national network in North America to be fully enabled with the industry leading brachytherapy solutions from Nucletron, including the microSelectron® 30 Channel Digital high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy afterloader and Oncentra® Brachy, Nucletron’s comprehensive treatment planning software for brachytherapy. By including all users within the US Oncology network into Nucletron’s Evergreen National Service Agreement, a program developed to deliver the latest brachytherapy technology system wide, clinicians gain access to the latest innovations now and in the future.

In addition to the latest brachytherapy tools, Nucletron and US Oncology jointly provide clinicians with ongoing training at the US Oncology Headquarters, located in The Woodlands, Texas. The standardized digital platform that the 25 Nucletron systems placed within the US Oncology network helps to ensure that patients receive the same sophisticated treatment via the latest HDR innovations.

Nucletron’s microSelectron 30-channel HDR digital afterloader offers US Oncology affiliated physicians the flexibility to treat their patients for a wide variety of body-site cancers, including breast, gynecologic, skin, prostate, endorectal and nasopharyngeal cancers. Oncentra Brachy, the world’s first fully DICOM-compatible treatment planning system, features state-of-the-art optimization algorithms to ensure efficient treatment, and provides US Oncology affiliated clinicians with excellent 3D contouring and margining tools to identify Regions of Interests (ROIs) in any imaging environment.

“Our relationship with US Oncology provides their network members with advanced brachytherapy treatment, clinician training and support for quality cancer care,” said Grant Geigler, director of strategic alliance for Nucletron. “We are honored to collaborate with one of the nation’s leaders in cancer treatment to improve patient care.”

“We are pleased to standardize the Nucletron installed base on this new digital platform and continue our strong working relationship with Nucletron,” said Charles Smith, PhD., vice president of Cancer Center Services and Technology at US Oncology. “Nucletron has always been a great company to work with; they listen well to the needs of patients and their customers.”

“Our relationship with Nucletron has allowed for a seamless integration of high dose rate brachytherapy into daily use in our cancer center,” said Todd Doyle, M.D., radiation oncologist at New York Oncology Hematology – Latham, a US Oncology affiliated oncology practice. “The availability of this technology allows more innovative, targeted dose delivery to a variety of tumor types. Our patients now enjoy local, outpatient access to treatments often reserved for the setting of large academic centers.”

Nucletron advanced brachytherapy solutions installed throughout the US Oncology network can be found at affiliated practices in the following cities: Phoenix and Tuscon, Ariz.; Hudson, New Port Richey, Ocoee and Miami, Fla.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Meriam, Kan.; Westminster, Md.; Maplewood, Minn;  Columbia and Kansas City Mo.; Albany, N.Y.; Raleigh N.C.; Austin, Dallas, Longview, McAllen, Paris, Plano, Sherman, and Tyler, Texas; and Hampton and Norfolk, Va.
