New Release Previews Exponential Gains in Speed

AAPM, PHILADELPHIA (July 19, 2010) — Nucletron, a knowledge-based leader in radiation oncology, today announced at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine annual meeting the upcoming release of Oncentra® v4.0, the newest version of Nucletron’s multi-modality treatment planning system for brachytherapy and external beam treatment. Available during the fourth quarter of 2010, Oncentra v4.0 offers several new innovative features that increase planning speed and improve plan accuracy.

Oncentra v4.0 premieres Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) calculation capability that reduces typical planning times from hours to minutes. Additionally, the release features a completely new Plan Manager module that automates routine tasks during treatment planning. Oncentra v4.0 also includes a new applicator-modeling feature that provides applicator and plan libraries, bar graphs, and shielded applicators for brachytherapy planning.

“The release of the new Oncentra v4.0 has been developed in response to the needs of clinicians for greater speed and accuracy,” said Robert Fenwick, vice president of external beam treatment planning at Nucletron. “We are previewing our upcoming release to demonstrate dramatic advances in our software performance and to show the innovation of our development roadmap. Nucletron has the resources, people and vision to make this roadmap a reality.”

The new version expands the capabilities of Oncentra, a fully DICOM-compatible treatment planning system. Oncentra provides progressive clinics with an independent option for treatment planning, offering compatibility with all major linear accelerators and sophisticated DICOM connectivity.  Oncentra combines speed and accuracy in a multi-modality environment. The system provides freedom of choice for clinics to select what is best for patients and specific practices rather than adhering to requirements of hardware manufacturers.

Oncentra v4.0 will be on display and available for demonstration during the AAPM annual meeting in Philadelphia, July 18-22 in Booth #901.
