A brachytherapy solution that enables very precise dose delivery for gynecologic cancers
July 13 2009 | Press Release
Veenendaal, Netherlands (July 13, 2009) — Nucletron, a knowledge-based leader in radiation oncology, announced today that it has received 510K approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for two new applicators for interstitial gynecologic brachytherapy. The new Utrecht Interstitial Fletcher and Interstitial Ring applicators feature needles that allow for precise dose placement without risk to surrounding organs while treating both early and advanced cervical disease. These applicators have been available in Europe since May 2009. The Utrecht Interstitial Fletcher applicator’s design uses the ovoids as templates for needle insertion. Based on the Vienna Ring Applicator, the new Interstitial Ring Applicator uses the ring as a template for needle insertion to optimize dose placement and minimize risk. “The introduction of two new and advanced applicators simultaneously demonstrates Nucletron’s innovative leadership in brachytherapy and continued commitment to raising the standards of care for patients,” said Jos Lamers, chief executive officer of Nucletron. Both the Utrecht Interstitial Fletcher and Interstitial Ring applicators are fully CT/MR compatible and offer enhanced MR visualization. The new applicators are compliant with the GEC-ESTRO 3D guidelines for gynecologic cancers and effectively leverage the powerful treatment planning capabilities of Oncentra® Brachy and Oncentra® GYN. Oncentra Brachy offers volume-based treatment planning and remote sharing of treatment plan information. Additionally, Oncentra GYN fully supports GEC ESTRO recommendations and provides dynamic treatment planning for intracavitary/interstitial gynecologic brachytherapy. Additional accessories are available to support interstitial gynecologic brachytherapy treatment using the applicators including an applicator clamp, MR line markers, OncoSmart Proguide needles, and a needle insertion tool. ### About Nucletron Nucletron is a knowledge-based leader in Radiation Oncology, working with clinical teams to realize innovative solutions that improve patient care.
