Walter Tarca Brings Experience and a Successful Record of Healthcare Innovation to His New Role

Veenendaal, The Netherlands (March 1, 2010) — Nucletron, a knowledge-based leader in radiation oncology, announced today that Walter Tarca has joined the company as vice president Asia Pacific. Tarca will oversee Nucletron business in this rapidly expanding region through accelerated expansion of its direct presence and increased investments in training and educational programs towards the adoption of brachytherapy.

“Walter Tarca brings to Nucletron a wealth of experience and a very successful track record of building and expanding heathcare business in Asia Pacific” said Jeroen Cammeraat, chief operating officer. “His past experience of introducing novel treatment techniques, such as minimal invasive surgery, through extensive training and education programs will enable Walter and the Nucletron team to adopt similar strategies that drive the adoption of brachytherapy”

As the name suggests, internal radiotherapy, or brachytherapy, is a high-precision radiation therapy, in which the radiation source is placed in or close to the tumor itself. The radiation source is used to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors with pinpoint accuracy. This precision approach allows a physician to concentrate a high dose of radiation in a smaller area, allowing the patient a higher quality of life through shorter treatment times (days versus weeks). This unique approach also minimizes exposure to healthy organs, and mitigates common side effects of other cancer treatments.

Prior to joining Nucletron, Walter Tarca served as president of the Asia-Pacific segment of Tyco Healthcare, responsible for day-to-day operations for the 20 countries that make up the region, including South Korea, China, India, Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia.  He was integral in the establishment of Tyco Healthcare’s first Asia-Pacific operations in Japan in 1995 and South Korea in 1997.

Prior to joining Tyco, Tarca held finance, operations and general management responsibilities in retail operations for Elders IXL in Australia and manufacturing operations for UK company Britax Rainsfords, a leading global manufacturer in the automotive components and child safety transport industry.

Tarca has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Adelaide University and is a Fellow, CPA.
