Veenendaal, the Netherlands – Nucletron BV and Exxim Computing Corporation are pleased to announce the formalization of a partnership agreement for the development and marketing of Cone Beam CT reconstruction software. R & D co-operation between the two parties have been ongoing for some time prior to the formalization of the relationship.

Cone Beam CT is a revolutionary new method of acquiring and reconstructing CT images from 3D isotropic image data using an amorphous silicon detector on a radiotherapy simulator. This unique radiation therapy imaging and validation tool, offers the ability to perform conventional, virtual and CT-Assisted simulation all on one device.

Oncentra™ Cone Beam, the result of this partnership, combines the strengths of both Exxim’s state of the art reconstruction tools and Nucletron’s Simulix™ simulator to form a fully integrated solution.

“Oncentra Cone Beam with the Simulix Evolution™ will greatly impact radiotherapy simulation as we know it today.  To provide two modalities in one device improves the treatment quality and reduce the cost of patient care”, said Rudolf Scholte, President and CEO of Nucletron BV, the Netherlands.

“Many cancer centres will not require two separate imaging devices for their treatment planning needs. With Oncentra Cone Beam, clinicians will no longer be forced to adapt patient positioning to conform to the CT scanner and will appreciate having high quality digital fluoroscopy and volumetric CT acquisition in one optimum simulation solution.”

Oncentra Cone Beam is an effective physician’s tool for pre and post treatment planning verification.  Once the CT volume is acquired clinicians can immediately begin virtual simulation with Oncentra Anatomy Modeling for optimum contouring results.  Complicated co-registration between systems for patient positioning is a thing of the past. Instead of choosing between a CT-Simulator and a conventional simulator, clinicians can now have the best of both worlds.

The President and CEO of Exxim’s, Dr. Horst Bruning, is excited to be able to contribute to Nucletron’s radiotherapy expertise. “This is a synergistic relationship, with both research and development groups working together to create a new and exciting product for better quality volumetric CT imaging in the radiation oncology environment.”
