Veenendaal, The Netherlands (June 14, 2002) - Nucletron today announced an agreement with Zmed in which Nucletron will become exclusive sales agent for Europe, North and South America for Zmed's SonArray™ Treatment Guidance System and the Frameless Stereotactic Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery products. “This is another excellent opportunity to deliver to our customers a complete treatment solution” stated Rudolf L.Scholte, President & CEO of Nucletron B.V. The SonArray™ Treatment Guidance System is an advanced, high precision patient positioning platform. It is based on the integration of optical tracking devices with 3D stereotactic images, providing real-time feedback to position the patient with sub-millimeter accuracy. The SonArray™ System will interface with existing radiation therapy technologies and with Nucletron's Inverse Treatment Planning (ITP) on the PLATOcomplete™ system. Previously acquired CT contours are then overlaid onto the stereotactic 3D-ultrasound images to localize, precisely and easily, the position of the radiation target. Nucletron's ITP system in conjunction with Zmed's SonArray™ Treatment Guidance System, provides a complete treatment solution to the Radiation Oncology Department, by offering tools to provide dose escalation to a tumor volume at the same acceptable toxicity as 3D conformal treatments. In addition, this will allow new levels of accuracy by integrating 3D ultrasound scanning technology with digital patient localization.
