VEENENDAAL, THE NETHERLANDS – October 14, 2005 – Nucletron B.V., a global leader providing some of the world’s most innovative products and services for cancer treatment, announces the availability of new autoclavable OncoSmart™ CT/MR compatible applicators for treatment of gynecological cancer using High Dose Rate and Pulsed Dose Rate brachytherapy.  The ability to autoclave the new applicators will facilitate the treatment of multiple patients in a single day, reduce sterilization costs, turnaround time, and allow institutions without access to Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilization to perform CT/MR based treatment planning.

"The ability to perform steam sterilization of the new applicators offers our cancer center more flexibility in patient throughput since we will no longer be constrained by the time requirements of gas sterilization," stated Dr. Jianan Graybill, Director of Radiation Oncology at Community Regional Cancer Care of Community Hospitals of Indianapolis. "The reduction in costs of sterilization also offers the opportunity to allocate the savings toward other options that would benefit our patients. This capability to sterilize applicators quickly should be advantageous for most HDR treatment facilities."

The OncoSmart CT/MR compatible applicator line offers the most extensive selection of applicators for High Dose Rate and Pulsed Dose Rate brachytherapy, including the complete vaginal, Standard and Ring CT/MR applicator sets. These unique non-metallic applicators enable the use of imaging markers and eliminate imaging artifacts, options that are currently not possible when using titanium and other metallic-based applicators on the market.

As with all Nucletron applicators, an unprecedented 3-year limited warranty on the OncoSmart CT/MR compatible applicators is available.

Jeroen Cammeraat, President of Nucletron Corporation, stated, “Nucletron is proud to introduce additional enhancements to assist institutions in performing CT/MR image based treatment planning. The new autoclavable CT/MR compatible applicators will provide a more environmentally conscious solution as the use of EtO sterilization decreases.”
