A brachytherapy solution that enables very precise dose delivery for gynecologic cancers

COLUMBIA, MD (September 29, 2009) — Nucletron, a knowledge-based leader in radiation oncology, today announced the first patient treated with the Flexitron brachytherapy treatment delivery solution in the United States at the Cancer Specialists of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. The 40-channel afterloader was recently integrated into Nucletron’s offering of high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy afterloaders, applicators and treatment planning solutions when Nucletron and Isodose Control joined forces, as of September 1, 2009, to become the premier provider of brachytherapy worldwide, focused on driving innovation and the adoption and utilization of brachytherapy solutions to improve patient care. The installation of the new Flexitron afterloader enabled the Cancer Specialists of Oklahoma to successfully treat their first breast cancer patient,with HDR brachytherapy, using the Flexitron, in conjunction with the SenoRx Contura™ multi-lumen balloon applicator. The Flexitron utilizes a 40 channel radiation delivery system with DICOM compatibility, and is engineered for many exciting future developments including dual radiation source capabilities and multiple isotope compatibility. “This first clinical installation of the Flexitron in the U.S. marks the next generation of afterloading platforms for cancer treatment,” said Jos Lamers, chief executive officer of Nucletron. “The combined expertise of Nucletron and Isodose Control brings leadership and innovation in HDR brachytherapy for cancer centers in North America and worldwide. The center offers state of the art radiation therapy with IMRT/IGRT and body stereotactic radiosurgery treatments on the Elekta Synergy platform.
