Freiburg Flap Applicator makes its Way Into the USA
April 27 1999
Veenendaal, The Netherlands, 27 April 1999 – Nucletron
is pleased to announce the immediate USA market clearance of the Freiburg Flap Applicator Set for brachytherapy of skin cancer and for intraoperative treatment of organs. This applicator can be used in combination with Nucletron’s microSelectron-HDR or -PDR afterloader systems or with the microSelectron-LDR/MDR. It provides an excellent alternative for orthovoltage or electron treatments.
The Freiburg Flap is a flexible silicone rubber surface mould that easily conforms to any body site or organ surface. The mould consists of individual pellets connected in a mesh design forming 36 channels of 24 cm length. The pellets are separated every
10 mm with a constant source-to-surface distance of 5 mm for reproducible dosimetry.
This unique applicator shape was developed in cooperation with Dr. S. Stange from the Albert Ludwigs University (Freiburg, Germany). He stated: "The equidistance of the holes guarantees a precise separation of the catheters. The Freiburg Flap material allows a precise positioning in respect of the target and verification of the treatment area".
The mould is reusable for cost effective treatments and can easily be sterilized in an autoclave for optimal productivity. The mould is a versatile tool also: it can be cut into different shapes to encompass the target volume and implantation is possible for up to 28 days. The Freiburg Flap Applicator Set includes disposable 6F Flexible Implant Tubes for connection to the afterloading treatment unit.
