A brachytherapy solution that enables very precise dose delivery for gynecologic cancers
May 14 2010 | News Release
Meet other users Since the first release of Oncentra Brachy (OCB) two years ago, the interest in this unique product has been intense. More than two hundred customers already use it clinically around the world. To help them share and build on their experiences, the first European Oncentra Brachy Best Practice Workshop was held last June in Valencia, Spain.
New user-friendly features There have been many exciting developments too. Oncentra Brachy now provides HDR/PDR brachytherapy for both Nucletron afterloaders (microSelectron & Flexitron). This autumn, more new features will be released to make Oncentra even faster and easier to use. One important new feature is applicator modeling, which is a unique combination of an applicator library manager and modeling of an applicator in the CT/MR datasets or projective images. The whole implementation concept is based on ease of use, making it possible to create a reconstruction of implants in just a few minutes, using just a few mouse clicks.
Extra functionalities In addition, we are adding more functionalities such as bar graphs, library plans, support of shielded applicators and the introduction of a complete new printing and plotting service to this version of OCB. We expect to introduce a new version to fully support the IBU connection, thereby making the old SGI-IBU frame grabber obsolete.
Like to know more? At events such as the recently held European OCB Best Practice workshop (www.nucletron.com/valencia2010), or during upcoming events like AAPM, ESTRO and ASTRO, we will give sneak previews of the development progress.

About Brachytherapy Brachytherapy is a high-precision radiation therapy, in which the radiation source used to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors is placed in or close to the tumor itself. Brachytherapy offers a precise, highly effective and well tolerated treatment option tailored to the needs of individual patients. The precision brachytherapy approach allows a physician to concentrate a high dose of radiation in a small area, minimizing damage to nearby, healthy body tissue and organs, over a shorter treatment period.
