Count your Blessings with Nucletrons solutions for prostate cancer
October 25 2010 | News Article
New brachytherapy solutions for prostate cancer focus on five positive aspects for both patients and clinics
Veenendaal, The Netherlands (25 October 2010) Nucletron, a leading provider of state of the art radiotherapy solutions for cancer treatment recently launched the campaign ‘Count your Blessings’ following the presentation of a new integrated solution for brachytherapy for treating prostate cancer. The advanced solution tackles the disease while minimizing damage to the healthy surrounding tissue, delivering on both cure, quality of life after treatment and cost containment.
Compared to other forms of radiotherapy like external beam (EBRT), brachytherapy delivers the required dose of radiation over a significantly shortened treatment time. In treating prostate cancer, normal treatment times that can take up to seven weeks with EBRT take only one or two days with brachytherapy. Additionally, the precise delivery of radiation reduces the risk of unnecessary damage to surrounding healthy tissue and organs which can help reduce side effects. Also, the risk of side effects like incontinence and erectile dysfunction is lower after brachytherapy than after prostatectomy, for example. These factors minimise disruption to patients and allow a faster return to everyday life.
Nucletron prostate solutions is the first complete programme for prostate brachytherapy. Available for two treatment types, -permanent Low Dose Rate (LDR) seeds implantation and High Dose Rate (HDR)- it offers the best choice of treatment for many prostate cancer patients. Each solution integrates the latest state-of-the-art Oncentra treatment planning software with best-in-class brachytherapy equipment. The result is a dual system to offer cancer patients the positive benefits of prostate brachytherapy.

About Brachytherapy
Brachytherapy is a high-precision radiation therapy, in which the radiation source used to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors is placed in or close to the tumor itself. Brachytherapy offers a precise, highly effective and well tolerated treatment option tailored to the needs of individual patients. The precision brachytherapy approach allows a physician to concentrate a high dose of radiation in a small area, minimizing damage to nearby, healthy body tissue and organs, over a shorter treatment period.
