Veenendaal, The Netherlands,- The Akademiska Hospital In Uppsala Sweden has treated the first clinical IMRT patient using the Oncentra MasterPlan suite of treatment planning from Nucletron. This is the first patient in the world to be treated clinically with the new Oncentra Optimizer system. “The Optimizer system provided excellent optimization, dose distribution and segmentation” states Anders Montelius, Chief Physicist at the Akademiska Hospital. “Overall the planning with the software was a positive experience. Optimizer has helped us generate complex treatment plans efficiently, and quickly.” The final dose plans were transferred to the Elekta Precise linac via VISIR™ record and verify system also from Nucletron. The Akademiska Hospital has 4 linear accelerators and provides treatment to over 1,100 new patients per year. The clinic had been planning to implement IMRT and the MasterPlan treatment planning system assisted in the realization of this goal. “The first case was a head and neck patient and the plan spared potentially damaging radiation to the spinal cord,” says Chief Radiation Oncologist Kristina Nilsson. “We will continue to plan our IMRT patients with Oncentra Optimizer.” .”.”Oncentra MasterPlan builds on a strong foundation of treatment planning innovation from Nucletron. A unique IMRT module, the product of collaboration with RaySearch Laboratories, from Stockholm, has produced a module called “Optimizer” which enables clinicians to rapidly optimize IMRT plans. In addition, an enhanced evaluation module provides clinicians unprecedented flexibility to review and approve plans. The integration of MasterPlan in the Oncentra information system for oncology, combined with its major advances, transforms traditional planning. Oncentra MasterPlan is available in all countries worldwide, and is comprehensively supported through Nucletron’s extensive service organization. About Nucletron B.V.
