Company History

1975

1975:

In 1975 Nucletron was founded in the Netherlands. Starting off as a one-man company, Nucletron's goal was to develop a totally new method for cancer treatment, that would be better for the patient, and more cost effective for the medical providers. Nucletron gradually evolved into the company it is today.

1977

1977:

The one-man company becomes Nucletron B.V., an Incorporated Private enterprise, opening the gates for global expansion in the years to come.
1978

1978:

After nearly three years of development in cooperation with a number of renowned hospitals, Nucletron celebrated the sale of the first Selectron LDR remote afterloader in the year 1978. Many more would follow soon. In 1979 the Selectron HDR was introduced.
1982

1982:

The first computerized treatment planning system is developed. NPS (Nucletron Planning System) is revolutionary for it's time and proves Nucletron is making giant leaps in innovative solutions for radiotherapy.
1983

1983:

The Nucletron Holding is created. At that time Nucletron had sold 70 Selectron systems to hospitals in 20 different countries.
1985

1985:

Nucletron opens the doors of the Nucletron Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland. This creates great opportunities for serving hospitals and patients in North and South America.
1988

1988:

Thanks to the efforts of Nucletron, the brachytherapy market is flourishing. Clinical results show the treatment of many tumors with brachytherapy is very effective. Nucletron's market share has reached 75%. The introduction of the first High Dose Rate afterloading system (microSelectron HDR) in this year is the next revolution in radiotherapy.
1989

1989:

Nucletron acquires Nuclital in Italy and Theranostic in Germany. The knowledge that is gained with this acquisition makes sure that Nucletron is the market leader in Brachytherapy for years to come. At that time 500 afterloaders and 250 treatment planning systems were used in clinical practice all over the globe. In the same year Nucletron receives the King William I Plaque for Export, handed out by His Royal Highness Prince Claus of the Netherlands.
1991

1991:

Nucletron introduces the next generation system for treatment planning, with the launch of the PLATO (PLAnning Treatment Optimization) software system. PLATO is designed both for brachytherapy and external beam treatment planning. With this product, Nucletron extends the focus from brachytherapy to the entire field of radiotherapy.
1993

1993:

With the acquisition of Kermath Manufacturing Corporation in the United States, development of a state-of-the-art treatment simulator began, resulting in the introduction of the Atlas system.
1994

1994:

Nucletron becomes part of the Delft Instruments N.V. organization. A result of this is that the Simulation part of the Oldelft organization is integrated with Nucletron. Oldelft is renowned for its development of medical imaging systems. The combination of knowledge from both organizations results in groundbreaking innovations in imaging and simulation-solutions for radiotherapy.
1998

1998:

Nucletron introduces PLATO Complete, the next generation of treatment planning software for radiotherapy.
2003

2003:

With the acquisition of OSS from MDS Nordion, Nucletron becomes owner of the Oncentra software solution for radiotherapy. With this totally integrated software solution Nucletron ensures the ability to expand market presence in cancer treatment with radiotherapy.
2006

2006:

With the launch of the microSelectron Digital, Nucletron introduces a next generation afterloader for HDR and PDR treatment. It's flexibility in combination with the top quality of the previous versions makes sure that Nucletron is again paving the road for brachytherapy for many years to come.
2007

2007:

With a management buy-out, Nucletron separates from Delft Instruments and continues as an independent company.
2008

2008:

Nucletron introduces the next generation treatment planning software for brachytherapy. With Oncentra Prostate, a real-time treatment planning system introduced earlier, this year Oncentra GYN and Oncentra Brachy are launched to the market. It shows that Nucletron is ready for the future of brachytherapy.
